Young driver getting shot with Paul Silva, Macri Motorsports' future plans | Daily 8-30-2023

A young driver is getting a shot to team up with Paul Silva and Kyle Larson for Gold Cup, the Macri 39M continues to move forward without Anthony, and plenty more today. Let's go!

It's Wednesday, August 30th, I'm Justin Fiedler. This is DIRTRACKR Daily.

This episode is being supported by our friends at Lincoln Speedway and the Dirt Classic. Lincoln Speedway’s two-day Dirt Classic is coming up this weekend! Saturday is the $10,000 to win kick-off to the Classic, and Dirt Classic ten goes down on Sunday with $20,000 going to the winner and a sweet titanium trophy. Sunday is also $1000 to start, the total weekend purse is over $99 grand. This marquee event is unsanctioned and will kick start the month of money in Central PA, and the big names are expected to race, including Danny Dietrich, Lance Dewease, and defending event winner Brent Marks. If you want to grab your reserved seats in advance, and you should, head over to dirtclassic.com, and when you checkout, make sure to use code "DIRTRACKR" with your order. Buying those seats in advance gets you $5 off the race day price, and the code gets you another $5 off. Using the code also gets you entered into a drawing for a Dirt Classic prize pack that includes an event shirt, poster, and a chance to get your photo in victory lane with the winner on Sunday. You can buy now over at dirtclassic.com with code "DIRTRACKR" at checkout. Big thanks to them for hooking you guys up and supporting the show. Definitely looking forward to this one.

The World of Outlaws Sprint Cars begin their west coast swing this week with Skagit Speedway, and one of the other big stops on this tour is Silver Dollar Speedway for the Gold Cup in a few weeks. The track released a pre-entry list yesterday that is 62 cars strong for the $25,000 to win weekend. Obviously all the Outlaw teams are represented, as are the main 410 and 360 drivers from the west coast. Guys like Corey Day, Dominic Scelzi, Shane Golobic, Colby Copeland, Tanner Carrick, DJ Netto, Ryan Bernal, and more. Rico Abreu and Buddy Kofoid are in for the trip as well, and they are on the list also. There is one interesting surprise in here, with Chase Randall being included. He's fresh off that 360 track championship at Knoxville and will pilot a second Paul Silva prepared 57 at the Gold Cup as a teammate to also entered Kyle Larson. I'm not sure how much Larson will be able to participate on the weekend, with the Cup cars out in Kansas, but he did run a single night a year ago. Remember that Larson is a partner in the promoting group at Silver Dollar. Back to Randall though, this will be a big time opportunity for the 18 year old driver, getting to run a car for Paul Silva and have Yung Money around to ask questions of. Randall does have some experience in California, winning a Kings of Thunder 360 show at Merced late last year. Make no mistake though, that was a packed field at Merced that night. Not a cupcake win against a weak field. Randall beat guys like Justin Sanders, Day, Carrick, both Macedos, Logan Seavey, Ryan Timms, and more. So far in 2023, Randall has seven total sprint car wins, including four in 360 competition at Knoxville, and three 410 victories in weekly action at Huset's. He made his World of Outlaws debut earlier this year at Tri-City, with his best run being a second place finish on his prelim night at the Knoxville Nationals. He led laps, and finished behind Donny Schatz in that one. He went on to finish 13th in the Saturday big show. Randall is definitely on the list of young drivers to pay attention to, and has the speed to compete at the highest levels.

Another sprint car story we've been keeping an eye on is the situation with Anthony Macri, and also the Macri Motorsports 39M. We talked back on Monday about how little we've seen Anthony, but it looks like the 39M will continue to stay busy with other drivers. I've seen multiple comments from people on my shows and elsewhere that think Anthony will return at some point, but I'm not sure I'd hold my breath on that one. We know Lance Dewease drove the 39M over the weekend at Williams Grove and Lincoln, and I would not be shocked to see Dewease remain in the seat in the coming weeks. Just a little bit ago, Lincoln Speedway announced Dewease to the Dirt Classic this weekend in the Macri car. Plus, I saw a tweet this morning from PA photographer Nicole Signor where Dewease is now going to have 39M t-shirts, which will supposedly be available at the Tuscarora 50. They are actually kind of funny with his name in duct tape. But Dewease in the 39M at Port? We'll see, but this is an interesting sign. Also, over at sprintcarunlimited.com Jeremy Elliott mentioned that Justin Sanders will be back in the 39M for the rest of the High Limit season, plus the Kevin Gobrecht Classic at BAPS. The three High Limit shows left include September 26th at Lernerville for $50 grand, October 3rd at Bridgeport, and October 10th at Lincoln Park. That BAPS show is September 23rd. Sanders is on the Gold Cup entry list with Mittry, and will focus on some west coast racing, before coming back east in a few weeks.

At Georgetown Speedway last night, Stewart Friesen picked up his 39th career Short Track Super Series win. He started seventh and powered around Ryan Godown on the outisde with 16 to go to grab the lead. He was out front the rest of the way, bagging the $6000 check. It was his third series win of 2023, and seventh overall modified win. Godown finished second and Matt Sheppard was third. I'd be curious to know if Godown had any words for polesitter Jordan Watson after the start of that feature last night. Out of four coming to the green, Watson let his car drift all the way up, eventually making contact with the 26. Godown had to get out of the gas to collect it, and it briefly stacked up the field behind him. Sketchy moment for sure. The Short Track Super Series is on track again this coming Sunday at Utica-Rome for the 50 lap, $12,000 to win New Yorker.

There is a little bit of racing today, and I'd recommend Sharon Speedway if you're looking for something to watch. 410 sprint cars and big block modifieds, and you can get in for $20 or you can watch it live on DIRTVision. The last time they did one of these midweek shows, they had a bunch of cars, and I wouldn't expect much different tonight.
